I said on Twitter the other night i wasn’t gonna write an article about a Unisa student, Itumeleng Mabeba who sent out an absolutely disgusting tweet saying he hoped Jessica Leandra burns in hell and that she gets raped with a broken beer bottle. Well he has since made a statement on his blog that it wasn’t him and that his account was hacked. This has annoyed me a tad.
Ok so here’s the thing.
The tweet he sent out clearly came from his Blackberry..it says so on the screenshot there. So someone would have had to get hold of his phone and then send it. No hacking of Twitter account, just picking up the phone and sending the tweet without his knowledge. Another tweet was sent out 50 min later from his account mentioning a reference to Tata Madiba. So im guessing that also came from the hacker? Or did the hacker return his phone and he just did not see all the notifications from people asking wtf with the beer bottle tweet so he sent out that Madiba one himself.
Oh and let’s bring up the fact also that once news of his tweet started spreading..his Twitter bio changed to one where his BBM pin was removed. In the pic below his bio with the pin is clearly visible. So did he change his bio or did the hacker also do that? Very thoughtful hacker that sends out such a terrible tweet, but spares him further problems by removing his pin. Or maybe he changed it…after the hacker gave his Blackberry back to him?
And he says on his blog that he has “also gone to my network service provider to find out if the hacker can be traced”. Does he mean his internet provider? How are they gonna help trace a tweet from his Blackberry? Or maybe he means his cellphone service provider? Maybe he knows of a way that can they can trace a tweet from a Blackberry when it’s in someone elses hands?
He then says he deleted his entire Twitter account and his Facebook account because of fear that the hacker would further drag his name further down the mud. Que? If he thought someone had hacked his account then surely a password change would prevent further hacking no? Unless of course he thought the hacker would take his Blackberry again without his knowledge?
Now i’m by no means saying this dude is guilty or that his account wasn’t hacked. He has gone to the police and hopefully they can prove his innocence and catch the hacker out to destroy his good name…or maybe they can ask him if he can shed some light on the points mentioned above.
Anyways ..here’s the post on his blog giving his take on what happened.
For your sake i hope so too pal.
He is currently facing disciplinary action from his employer. More details HERE.
