Things heated up considerably over the weekend regarding the ongoing controversy surrounding Shaun Dewberry’s report on streaming internet radio in SA claiming that several stations were inflating listenership numbers. Last week i posted the story HERE and after a week long investigation by IT experts, Mybroadband has revealed that there is overwhelming evidence that support Dewberry’s accusations.
According to information provided by streaming host NetDynamix, Ballz Radio and 2Oceansvibe Radio have an hourly listenership of between 200 and 300…considerably less than the proclaimed tens of thousands of listeners.
NetDynamix allowed Mybroadband to view the log files for Ballz Radio and 2OVfm, the same log files that were given to the stations with audited statistics. Here’s a snapshot of two of them.
Ballz Radio hourly unique users for May 2012.
That shows an hourly average of about 200 listeners. Considerably less than the 50 000 plus the station claimed previously.
And the 2Oceansvibe Radio hourly unique users for May 2012.
The investigation by Mybroadband also shows graphs for Average Quarter Hour and peaks during May 2012.
The article ends with the following statement.
“Since NetDynamix CEO Chris Grant confirmed that they used exactly the same methodology to produce 2Oceansvibe’s statistics and Ballz Visual Radio’s statistics, it is fair to assume that the problem with inflated numbers (which seems to be in the region of 20,000% and 30,000%) should be of concern to both stations.” [Mybroadband]
Will keep you updated if the station and NetDynamix release new statements.

UPDATE 2: 2Oceansvibe have released a statement and have decided to part ways with NetDynamix. Editor Seth Rotherham said that “A lot has been said about how we have used these numbers, possibly for financial gain. While we obviously took any opportunity in the past to boast about the NetDynamix stats – which we were assured to be true – it should be made very clear that, due to our cross-platform offering, our pricing structures have not changed since before we ever had listenership figures.” For the full statement and more info click HERE.
Fair enough..i woulda done exactly the same. Loved the chirp at the end as well about productivity in the workplace increasing 30 000%.
